A gem in the Peaks We stayed here for one night whilst on a walking holiday in the Peaks, and the welcome and facilities at Stanshope Hall were just fantastic. We felt like warmly anticipated guests rather than paying customers, and immediately felt relaxed.

Our bedroom was spacious, comfortable and well appointed; whilst the bathroom was a joy! A fabulous shower in addition to a bath with a wonderful view, ensured that we very quickly felt ready to enjoy afternoon tea served in the beautiful drawing room. Chris was an extremely hospitable and sociable host (albeit covering for Naomi, the usual proprietor) encouraging us to order a really substantial breakfast. Knowing the length of walk we had planned for the next day, we sadly had to decline a full cooked breakfast, but the food we saw served to our fellow guests the next morning looked very appetising. The locally sourced and homemade produce we did have was delicious, and but for the existing weight of our backpacks, we would have availed of the option to buy the lemon curd, honey and granola that was available to purchase.

We walked to the Royal Oak in Wetton for dinner, a perfectly manageable distance; but would acknowledge that in different weather, a car would be virtually essential to fully enjoy this location. We plan to return, to experience this beautiful house in another season!
